Inspired by Leicester’s UK City of Culture 2017 bid theme of ‘illumination’, Light the Night is a free outdoor festival with something for everyone on Sunday 17th November, from 3.30pm until late.
The festival has been put together by Phoenix cinema and art centre, Leicester’s Cultural Quarter Business Association (CQBA) and artists’ collective Creative Manifesto.
Following Leicester’s Christmas lights switch-on in Humberstone Gate West (4.30pm), local and international artists will be lighting-up streets around the corner in the city’s Cultural Quarter with a series of exciting outdoor events – including PixelPyros 5.30-8.00pm : a digital firework display will transform Orton Square (outside Curve theatre) using projectors and lasers.
A live camel procession starts at the Town Hall Square at 2.30pm, ending in the Cultural Quarter’s Halford Street at 3.15, where there’ll be a viewing area for the camels until 5.30pm.
See the Phoenix website for more info.
Over at Leicester Market on the same day (11am – 5pm) is Leicester’s Winter Food Festival, with over 150 stalls of the best locally-produced food, drinks and crafts.
