Journeys Extra

2 November 2015

Visual, interactive and musical events at the Platforma Festival

Journeys Extra is a new initiative, developed by ArtReach, which will run in parallel to the Platforma Conference in Leicester 5-6 November 2015.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Arts and Refugees’ – artists, organisations and academics from across the globe will be conducting talks and workshops throughout the event.

Journeys Extra will provide an exciting platform for refugee and asylum seeker artists to have their voices heard, through showcasing and discussing their work, within an innovative and thought-provoking programme of visual, interactive and musical events. Journeys Extra will ‘wrap around’ the Platforma Conference to provide a cohesive, enriching creative programme

On show in our Gallery (across the courtyard), cafe-bar area, and in Lightbox (by our front door) will be work by Hong Dam (Dreaming of Home) Ali Agayev (Fighting To Stay Alive), and Behjat Omer Abdulla (Look Up – Look Back).

Short films in the Nanoplex
The Nanoplex will be in the LCB Depot Courtyard 2nd-6th November – go through the cafe-bar to reach it.

Artreach will be bringing its wonderful mini cinema (a cleverly converted caravan!) to LCB Depot to showcase a series of short films made by or about refugees and asylum seekers. The films range from short documentaries to animation and acted short films. The films will be shown on an ‘on demand’ basis, so you can choose which film you would like to see. All last less than 15 minutes.

You are invited to the Launch Party of Journeys Extra at LCB Depot on Monday 2nd November, 6-8pm.
