Sophie Oakley, the winner of the Pedestrian Summer Exhibition, returns to Pedestrian Gallery with a solo exhibition.
Sophie is a postgraduate currently studying Fine Art at De Montfort University. Her work is based on memories of growing up on the North Yorkshire Moors near the coast, and text in novels describing memory and the process of remembering and forgetting. Her source for this text is found in the narrative of novels such as Marcel Proust’s Swann’s Way and Kate Atkinson’s Behind the Scenes at the Museum. Her work consists of paintings and photographs with paintings. Text has been incorporated with or as part of an image. It is then also combined with a mixture of oil paint and varnish.
