Crafted

2 May 2019

Work in progress from DMU’s 2nd Year Design Crafts students

“Halfway through our Design Crafts (Ba Hons) degree, we’re second year students, excited to announce the launch of our end of year show, a public exhibition held at LCB Depot.

For regular updates about our creative practice, follow us for an insight into the ‘behind the scenes’ as we prepare for our exhibition.

The crafts industry is among the fastest growing sectors, it’s up to us as developing and upcoming makers to continue this trend and spread the importance of contemporary craft.”

The exhibition will showcase a selection of the various materials that make up the crafts industry; ceramics, textiles, glass, wood, metalsmithing and jewellery. The broad range of aesthetic established throughout Crafted is a demonstration of the students’ self-directed studies, having each formulated individual design briefs. Collectively, the handcrafted pieces display a body of developing knowledge and understanding, combining age old techniques with modern, digital processes.

Student Chloe Rogers said,

“Working towards Crafted this year has been hugely insightful in my developing practice as a ceramicist. To have had the opportunity to not only be part of a public exhibition, but also be involved in the organising, promoting and curation of the show has opened more doors towards the career as a contemporary craftsperson I aspire to.”
