The Computer Arts Society was established in the UK in 1968 and pioneered the development of digital arts worldwide.
This exhibition in Lightbox at LCB Depot celebrates 50 years since the founding of CAS in 1968 and presents the history of digital arts to a contemporary art audience, and marks the start of a year-long programme that will include multiple gallery showings of 20 pioneering computer-based artworks, a conference discussion panel at EVA’18 in London, an exhibition publication, the republication of the pioneering PAGE magazine, and a documentary website and video.
The exhibition features print-based work from 12 internationally recognised computer artists and includes three Lumen Prize winners, eight artists from the V&A collection and a number of Prix Ars Electronica winners. What’s more, three of the artists are from Leicester – part of our significant computer art heritage.
