Canteen – Leicester’s new street food night, on the last Friday each month : amazing street food in our courtyard, Grays cafe-bar open, music to suit the mood – and…. Comedy in the Courtyard Room:

Three recent Leicester Comedy Festival performers will provide before-, during- and after-dinner speeches, depending on how quickly you’re eating. Then you just stock up on more food and return for the next one!

Our March Canteen brings you:

After creating such a buzz in December; these Asian food specialists are back. Homeboys is the new food truck from Masterchef 2015 finalist Pete Hewitt, serving up Asian inspired street food out of a 1978 Grumman Olson Step van. Expect the best Asian specialities like Katsu, Ramen and some surprises on the night.

Big Daddies Diner
One of the Midlands’ original street food traders, this local family-run outfit hails from Lutterworth and provides the very best in Gourmet Hot Dogs. Owner Jeff has been creating American diner-style masterpieces for the past 5 years and everything they serve is sourced locally and made fresh, even down to the relishes. These are the real thing – big locally produced sausages in brioche buns with toppings such as Brisket Chilli and Mac n Cheese!

Kai was recently opened in Leicester by duo Kiran Nagra and Aidan Kettle. Both Leicester locals, Aidan has been a chef for 15 years and Kiran has previously been on the Midlands street food circuit. Kai’s concept is to provide healthy, well balanced food without sacrificing on flavour. They will be bringing their take on Indian home cooked curries along with a new surprise menu addition.

Based in the LCB depot; Grahame and the team have been bringing fresh seasonal food to Leicester since 2013. Canteen gives Grays the chance to do extra special dishes that normally wouldn’t feature on their usual menus, perfectly complementing the other traders. We look forward to seeing what they come up with for March.

Bournville Waffle Company
The Bournville Waffle Company was founded by Jenny and Des in 2013. Since then they have traded at many of the UK’s best festivals and events, selling waffles with unusual toppings from their lovingly-restored and converted Mustang caravan. All the waffles are baked fresh to order and their menu is playful and creative. Without doubt one of our favourite dessert vendors!

Turbo Pete Large pork frankfurter topped with home-smoked pulled pork, red cabbage slaw and homemade bbq sauce
Edna Large beef frankfurter topped with homemade chunky beef chilli, shredded Red Leicester cheese, jalapeño relish and smashed nachos
Macdaddy Large beef frankfurter topped with homemade creamy mac and cheese with homemade bbq sauce and smashed nachos
Big Bob Large natural pork frankfurter served in an artisan bun with sauteed onions, sauces and pickles

Chicken Curry A flavourful homemade Punjabi curry served with a chaat on whole wheat flat bread. Garnished with raita and house pickle.
Chickpea and Vegetable Curry A healthy curry made with traditional Punjabi flavours served with a chaat on whole wheat flat bread. Garnished with raita and house pickle. (Veg – Vegan option without Raita)
Chaat A sweet potato and chickpea chaat topped with raita, tamarind chutney, house mint chutney and garnished sev (chickpea flour noodles). (Veg – Vegan options without Raita)
Pani Puri A popular Indian street food snack. The crispy puri’s are stuffed with potatoes, onions and sev (chickpea flour noodles). Served with mint, coriander and green chilli water. (Vegan)
