From 13 January – 4 February 2024, 10 windows in Leicester’s city centre will be decorated with giant sequins and we’re 1 of them!
This interactive trail will provide tips and tricks for future re-using, upcycling, or recycling of textile materials.
Leicester’s textile history is something to be proud of but we must remember that clothes, footwear and household textiles are responsible for water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and landfill.
So, how can we help the environment through our use of textiles, clothes and fabrics?
We’ve rescued over 1000kg of textiles and fabrics that were due for landfill, to create a magical trail that shares the fabulous creations of over 1000 local children in a colourful display in select windows around the city centre. We’ve supplied schools, community groups and youth groups with the resources to follow, lead artist, Jessica Grady’s incredibly inventive digital workshops.
The Re/thread project has been a free, fun and engaging project for schools, community groups and families to get involved in. We provided access to creative workshops and materials which promote social, cultural and environmental understanding, culminating in a city-wide art trail that over 1000 local children have helped to create!
