Online festival celebrating South Asian culture and arts
Celebrating South Asian culture and arts, this year An Indian Summer (AIS) has been re-imagined and re-packaged for an online audience. Live concerts, new podcasts, workshops and activities, film screenings and more - all for free!
An Indian Summer was born to share the sights, sounds and wonders of South Asia in the heart of Britain. The festival’s mission is to celebrate the shared culture between the Indian subcontinent and the UK - nurturing exciting artistic collaborations and educating people from all walks of life about the past, present and future of our global community.
AIS 2020 marks the 10th edition of the festival and this year will be the world’s first South Asian arts online festival for the Stay at Home Audience. Amidst the outbreak, AIS have decided to change the format of their annual event to a digital cultural platform that allows users to explore an array of music, dance, theatre, exhibitions, short films and educational programmes through innovative cultural engagement.
An Indian Summer Festival 2020 has been postponed until 10-23 August.
However, these events are still going ahead as planned in July:
AIS Open exhibition (Launched 13 July)
400 Years: Britain & India (20 - 30 July)
AIS Activity Book (Launched 30 July)
AN INDIAN SUMMER OPENSubmissions to the new, inaugural open art exhibition,
An Indian Summer Open, have now closed. Artists were invited to submit work exploring the theme of
Now We Are Free? and what it means to be free in today’s world. Inspired by the anniversaries of South Asian independence in recent years, the exhibition aims to explore what freedom feels like, tastes like and means once it has been attained. See the
exhibition on the AIS website and social media from 13 July.
