TAIKO - the various Japanese drums called wadaiko (和太鼓 "Japanese drums") and to the form of ensemble taiko drumming more specifically called kumi-daiko (組太鼓 "set of drums").

Taiko film Healing Beats will get its UK premiere at the Phoenix on Friday 5th July at 7.00pm and on Sunday 7th at 3.00pm. Tickets are £5.00 and are available online

5 adult Taiko groups each play for 10 minutes in a quick-fire celebratory concert.

Taiko Performance

A special outdoor performance of ELEVEN, a composition by Kaoly Asano in memory of the 2011 tsunami disaster in Japan.

At LCB Depot. Saturday 6 July 9.30am-5.30pm:

Outdoor Performances
Informal outdoor performances will take place hourly throughout Saturday 6 July at LCB Depot, the Taiko Festival Hub. They will be followed by “have-a-go” workshops for members of the public. Free entry.

Presentations and Discussions
There will be a series of short talks on Taiko-related topics. Free entry.

Food and drink will be available throughout the day from 9.30am from Grays Coffee Shop & Kitchen at LCB Depot.

Raffle!
With thanks to the generosity of Taiko Kaiser Drums this year's Festival will feature a raffle to win a high-quality Kaiser nagado-daiko with case and stand. Tickets are £5 and available on Friday evening and throughout the day on Saturday. Winner will be drawn during the 'Taiko Without Borders' concert on Saturday evening.

15:30  Presentation by Leicester's Bullfrog Arts, who have run a Taiko development project with the city's schools since 2015

Free entry from 10pm till late : After-show party at Midas Cafe-Bar on Yeoman Street for a get-together and celebration of the Saturday!

Time and Space between the Drum

LCB Depot is also showing Time and Space between the Drum, a Taiko exhibition 3-13 July in our Lightbox gallery space; a photo exhibition by Bullfrog Arts in our cafe-bar near the settees; and Taiko drums in our Courtyard Room display cases, viewable from our rear courtyard.
